The first step in placing a relative in a nursing home may be one of the most difficult and traumatic decision any one can make. There are a multitude of reasons why these decisions are placed upon family members. Unless you are put in this position yourself, you cannot begin to comprehend the immense confusion, guilt and pain when dealing with aging and chronic illness afflicted by a member of your family. So, why are we talking about care giving issues for the elderly, and why should it affect us?
